Three homesites are all that remain in the masterplanned community of Sandstone Lakes near Bribie Island after recent government grants caused a land grab.
Developer QM Properties announced the final release of large sites just before the Federal Government announced details of its $25,000 HomeBuilder grant to boost the construction industry, which has been hit by the COVID-led economic recession.

The rush on sales led to 12 properties selling in one week, bringing to 25 the total number of sales in the past two months.
“Property has been walking out the door,” QM Properties general sales manager Damien Ross said.
He said the remaining blocks, two of 600sq m and one of around 400sq m, were not expected to last more than a few days.
“There is no other land in that area, these are the last blocks in the community.”

Since the development began more than 10 years ago, some 700 homesites have been created in masterplanned community which is situated in the Moreton Bay town of Ningi as part of the gateway to Bribie Island, 45 minutes north of Brisbane.
Two years ago it was Baby Boomers buying in to the masterplanned community of Sandstone Lakes which is part of the mainland gateway to Bribie Island, north of Brisbane.

But with smaller blocks becoming available in the last land releases, local first-home buyers, who may be eligible for more than $40,000 worth of grants under various government packages, have recorded the largest increase in interest.
Mr Ross said young buyers were choosing to buy in or close to the neighbourhoods they grew up in, to stay connected to family, friends and the shops, schools and restaurants they are familiar with.
“It’s reassuring for any buyer to purchase a property in an area they know well, and we are seeing this trend become more pronounced with first time buyers,” Mr Ross said.
“Generally speaking, it also means they have a better understanding of what properties in that area are worth and what is fair value for money,” he said.

First-home buyers Martine Felschow and Curtis Court grew up on Bribie Island and still have family there.
Deciding it was more affordable to buy land and build than to rent an existing property, they are among the latest to invest in the Sandstone Lakes community surrounded by 46 hectares of natural melaleuca forest with a recreational lake and canals.

Tropical haven walking distance from the surf

Owners Wendy and Neil Robinson bought 37 Eden Cres, Woorim 25 years ago and in that time have turned the property into a haven.
“We loved the open-plan design and the atrium in the centre of the home,” Mrs Robinson said. “It’s such a beautiful Queensland home.”

“It’s great home for entertaining, we’ve had so many great nights here,” Mrs Robinson said.
“Neil and I are both golfers and this is also a great place to come home to after a game. It’s so quiet and relaxing.”
The home is three minutes from the Bribie Island Golf Club and a five-minute walk from the beach.

AFTER 18 months of hard work Paula and Clinton Turnbull have given this private 1930s Queenslander a new lease on life.
The couple bought the property with the intention of making it their long term home but a change in circumstances has meant they have listed the property for sale.
“We’ve worked on it every weekend since we’ve been here,” Mrs Turnbull said.
“It had been empty for about 12 months when we bought it so the garden was completely overrun. We did about 10 trips to the dump with garden waste.

“It was a lot of hard work but there is still more the next owner can do.”
The couple not only tamed the garden, they also repainted the house, put in new carpet, airconditioners, blinds and some statement lighting.
“The home has the most beautiful light in every room and there are eight sets of french doors throughout,” Mrs Turnbull said.
“It’s a very cool home. You get a lot of very nice breeze and it’s so leafy too.”
The elevated home has a full length front veranda, high ceilings, VJ walls and a back deck.
There is a lounge room with fireplace, a family room, living room and dining room.

The country-style kitchen has plenty of bench and cupboard space and there is also a bathroom, separate toilet and a sleep-out upstairs.

Mrs Turnbull said the 774sq m block was very private.

An acreage home with a spa cave reminiscent of the Playboy Mansion’s famous grotto, though a lot more family-friendly, has hit the market to the north of Brisbane.
Owners Shannon and Blake Robertson built a spacious four-bedroom home on their 3,300sq m block at 9 Farry Rd, Burpengary East with their two children and pet dogs in mind.

“We went to school with the guy who does the rockscapes and we saw one of his designs pop up on Facebook,” Mrs Robertson said.
“We got him and his dad out to see what they could do — he runs Structural Rockscapes and his dad runs Gumnut Pools Noosa.”

“Both kids and adults absolutely love it,” Mrs Robertson said.
“It was the best thing we ever did. We’ve had some huge parties here and everyone is in it.”
The pool area includes tropical landscaping and a gazebo, and there is a fire pit area with pizza oven and a covered patio overlooking the pool.
Inside, the home has an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area opening to the patio. The kitchen has a butler’s pantry, stone benchtops and stainless steel appliances.

Kitchen hack save renovating couple thousands of dollars

Tool trolleys make for hardy kitchen cabinet replacements in this Woody Point cottage.

A Woody Point couple has taken industrial chic to a new level by swapping out their kitchen cabinets for tool boxes.
Patrice Webb and Grant Middleton were tossing up whether to completely renovate their seaside cottage or tear it down to rebuild when they decided to give the kitchen a revamp.
“At that point we thought, let’s not go too berserk and do too much to the kitchen,” Ms Webb said.
The couple was in Bunnings when inspiration for a bargain kitchen hack struck.
“We saw these tool trolleys with timber benchtops,” Ms Webb said.
“I said to Grant, ‘you’d probably want these in your garage but in the meantime we could use them in the kitchen’.”

The Woody Point home a distinct coastal vibe.

The couple bought two of the 15-draw trolleys and one 10-draw trolley to use in place of cabinets.
“They worked out really well,” Ms Webb said.
“Having sliding drawers is so easy for storing plates and cutlery. The only things that didn’t fit were my wine glasses but we just hung them from a shelf.”
The couple has undertaken a number of kitchen overhauls but this was by far their cheapest.

The house has been painted from the ceilings to the floors.

“We’ve renovated quite a few houses and put in kitchens with granite benchtops and glossy (cabinetry), which can cost upwards of $30,000,” Ms Webb said.
“The (tool) benches cost $799 for the smaller one and $899 each for the bigger ones and we also bought a cheap cabinet for the kitchen sink.”
In addition to the budget kitchen, the pair also put in two new bathrooms and painted the cottage inside and out — including the floorboards.
“We actually ripped the carpet up and there were floorboards underneath that weren’t in very good condition, so we painted them turquoise,” Ms Webb said.
“We’re really close to beach and I realty like turquoise so I thought, why not?”
The Woody Point property is currently tenanted.
